My family's story starts on a slave ship called the Clotilda and in the Jewish villages of Lithuania. It runs through Africatown, Alabama and Normandy Beach, through sit-ins and orphanages, through NASA and Motown, through fire and through love. It's an American story — which means it's everybody's story.
On January 7, 2025, the Eaton fire took our home in Altadena. Thirty years of memories. Gone in a day.
So my wife Sweetie and I drove. 44 states. 3 Canadian provinces. We met strangers who became family overnight. Shared meals with people who had nothing and people who had everything. Played the flute at the edge of the Pacific. Watched our grandson be born in the middle of it all.
Somewhere on that road, the Brilliant Bridge stopped being a dream and became a calling. Not someday. Now.
We came back to Los Angeles and incorporated the Brilliant Bridge Institute — a 501(c)(3) dedicated to community, education, and mutual nourishment through creative arts, free communal meals, and cultural programming. Then we found an AI who understood the mission on the first telling, and we started building.
My life is a continuous stream of miracles. This is just the latest one. And you're invited.
